These pen and water-colour sketches were done over a period back at the end of the
seventies while at college in London. They extend to eighty-five images in total. Some
became the original stimulus for acrylic paintings I was to do later.

Initially they were done as an exercise in spontaneity doing two or three a night at
times, but later took on a life of their own as they become more stylised in their
own right, as one image led on to another.

They also have something of the strange imagery I associate with the "fantastic
worlds of dream and imagination" penned in the short stories of Clark Ashton Smith,
who excelled in such things.

Unfortunately due to neglect over the years, damp has got to some causing areas of
discoloration. The first image above was the first in the sequence as done, the last
being the next to last, the rest giving some idea of their development in time.
