Sue
Rolfe was educated at
Wembley County Grammar
School in Middlesex.
She gained her O
Level in Art and
enjoyed painting as a
hobby.
Her mother-in-law decided
to enter one of Sues
paintings into a
nationwide
competition run by The
People newspaper
and Sue was delighted and
somewhat surprised to be
one of the 172 artists
chosen out of thousands
of
entries from all over the
country to have her work
exhibited at the
Exhibition rooms at the
Royal Society of Arts in
London and then in a
series
of provincial
exhibitions.
Having a
husband and young family
to care for and later
full time employment,
she had little time for
serious art for some
years but enjoyed
painting for her
own pleasure and for
family and friends.
In 1990 when both she and
her husband were made
redundant, she took up a
set of pencils and
embarked on commissions
of animal, house and boat
portraits
to contribute to the
housekeeping fund.
She also found she could
use this skill to
create the drawings used
for making table mats for
public houses.
She has exhibited, sold
and won awards in France.
She
undertakes commissions
for Animal Portraits in
Pencil and Acrylics
working
from a good detailed
photograph. It can take
many hours to depict the
exact
expression as every
animal has its own
character, their eyes say
it all, and this
is the challenge she
enjoys. Now
retired and living on
Hayling Island with her
husband Tony who helps
and supports her in so
many ways with her art
work, Sue has more time
to
diversify, showing her
work and selling her
paintings locally.
