In 1948, Jane
Salter was born into a very artistic
family. (Her brother is a well known
marine artist) so we may safely assume
she received all the training one
needs from a very early age!
Since retiring,
four years ago, Jane moved to
Langstone with her husband and picked
up her brushes again. She has found a
new career combining her passion for
Art with the therapeutic effects of
colour used to express, imagination
and emotions. Jane’s bold style is
seen in her contemporary Seascapes,
which she has drawn from her extensive
world travels, with faces from places
she has visited, all reflected by the
colours.
In 2006, Jane
exhibited at the Portsmouth Cathedral
Summer Exhibition and was awarded 3rd
place for “Best Painting”, by
public vote. Jane joined Art Ache in
August 2006 and her work has proved
exceedingly popular. She has a high
turnover of sales.
At the tender age
of 15, Jane who attended ‘The Covent
of the Cross’ in Waterlooville,
painted an ascension which was
exhibited in the hall. When the Bishop
of Portsmouth Cathedral came to the
school, he chose her painting to hang
in his exhibition at the Cathedral.
On leaving school,
Jane was offered a place at the
Portsmouth School of Art but
unfortunately was unable to accept the
offer at that time.
Jane trained as an SRN and District
Nurse, completing her career of thirty
years as a Macmillan Nurse.
